With a debt to the historical tradition of the great European
printmakers, Albrecht Durer and Rembrandt van Rijn, Konstantin
Kalynovych's illustrative landscapes and surreal interiors carry those
masters' sensibilities into the 21st century. Kalynovych creates
etchings in which minutely detailed tableaux bear out his extraordinary
draughtsmanship and visionary imagination. Rich, tonal areas created by
simply needling the linear detail through a protective, wax ground onto
a copper plate to be etched in an acid bath, underscore the fantastic
nature of the printmaker's content.
Born in Novokuznetsk, Russia, Kalynovych was educated at the Ukrainian
Academy of Printing from 1986 -1992. In 1992, the artist was elected to
the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in Great Britain. He lives with
his family in Lugansk in the Ukraine and has a busy career as a teacher
and working artist. Since 2000, Kalynovych has won many prestigious
awards for his graphic work throughout the world.
