Agnieszka Ligendza

Printmaking

Artist Bio

Agnieszka LigendzaAs with so many artists who wish to pursue printmaking, Agnieszka Ligendza came from undergraduate studies (Grand Valley State College in Michigan) to work in the graduate printmaking department at the University of Iowa. In the 13 years since her arrival in Iowa, the artist has completed her MFA in printmaking, and pursued concurrent careers in graphic design and teaching. In her current position at Coe College, Ligendza is gallery director and instructor in Digital Art and Graphic Design.

Using "found" digital images that she manipulates with keen precision, the disembodied figurative elements that make up this suite of ink-jet prints give visual expression to the inner life of the artist. Now aniticipating a major change in her life in planning a move away from the place that has been her only home in adulthood, Ligendza explores her relationship to places and people. Mysteriously entwined arms and legs allude to the complexity and elusive nature of emotional ties. While it is true that personal sources inform the creation of this body of work, the visual richness of each finished piece allows the viewer a breadth of interpretation that transcends autobiography.
