Sheryl Ellinwood

Glass artist, Sheryl Ellinwood, has willfully developed the range of her work within her medium after a pivotal career change in 1988. At that point, she left the business world and began a BFA program at the University of Toledo in her native state of Ohio. Ellinwood then went on to complete an MFA at the University of Southern Illinois, at Carbondale.

Located in Pella, Iowa since 1994, Ellinwood has "grown" the business aspect of her studio activity through a pragmatic balance between finely crafted jewelry, decorative tiles, wall-mounted, fused glass murals and highly sophisticated, mixed-media sculptures. All of the diverse pieces produced by Ellinwood Studios require an acute, practical and aesthetic knowledge of glass. At the same time, Ellinwood's sculptures tap into the artist's technical expertise as well as her poetic persona which is steeped in the traditions of ethnic cultures which she has observed in her global travels. Incorporating patinated steel and bronze surfaces with which she integrates text, found objects and glass, the artist explores belief systems. Light and form illuminate her fascination in universal, human truths revealed in the myths of distinct cultures.

Ellinwood's work has won awards throughout the world, and is included in numerous corporate and private collections.
