Tam Bodkin Bryk
Still-life painting
Artist Bio
Originally a native of New York State, Tam Bodkin Bryk traveled and studied throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe before settling in Iowa City, Iowa in 1990. The artist most enjoys exploring the exacting genre of classical still-life painting - a type of painting particularly influenced by 17th century Flemish artists' works.
Tam also frequently creates "trompe l'oeil" paintings. Translated literally, "fool the eye", "trompe l'oeil" images trick the viewer- confusing what is real with what is illusion. Sometimes the viewer may even feel the need to touch a trompe l’oeil image to be certain that it is not three dimensional.
All of the artist's work is based on the confident use of color, composition and light, while Tam's personal interests find their expression in the subjects selected for each piece.
