Tyler Speicher
Stoneware
Artist Bio
A recent graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Tyler Speicher has continued to explore the creation of a range of vessels in his functional stoneware. Citing his rural roots in Conrad, Iowa, the artist describes how the buildings of that landscape have influenced both his forms and their surface decoration. Silhouettes of grain elevators and barns are distilled to their simplest outlines to create color and textural contrasts that are highly sophisticated. All of the artist's work is geared to be durable for practical use.
Speicher has set up a working ceramic studio with his girlfriend and fellow potter, Sarah German. Both participate in shows and exhibits throughout the Midwest, and most recently were featured in a dual show at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
